If dental visits have felt impossible for your child, you are not alone, and it does not have to stay that way. At Sidekick Smiles, Dr. Deep works with kids who have sensory sensitivities, communication differences, developmental disabilities, or just a really big fear of the dentist. Every visit is shaped around your child, not the other way around.
You already know your child better than any office ever will. Our job is to listen to what you know, build the visit around it, and give your kid a real shot at walking out feeling proud. No rushing, no one-size-fits-all approach. Kids are the heroes here. We are just the sidekick.
Want to talk it through before booking anything? Call us at (610) 992-4910 and tell us about your child.
Before you arrive, we ask real questions: what has gone wrong before, what tends to set your child off, and what helps them feel safe. If picture schedules or social stories are already part of your routine, let us know and we will build from there.
No instruments, no exam, no pressure. Just walk the halls, peek at the game room, say hi to the team, and leave. For a lot of kids, this one low-key visit is what makes the next one actually work.
Before Dr. Deep uses any tool, he explains it, shows it from a distance, and only then brings it close. Every step works the same way, and if your child needs a break, they get one.
Cleanings, exams, and treatment all happen here, just at a pace that works for your child. We use a digital scanner instead of goopy trays, and an intraoral camera so you can see exactly what Dr. Deep sees. We adjust the pace, lighting, noise level, and how much we take on in a single visit.
Before you leave, you will know what got done, what we skipped and why, and what comes next. If we only made it through part of the plan, we will say so honestly and talk through how to approach it next time.

Sidekick Smiles was built for kids who need a little more room than a standard appointment allows. Whether your child has a diagnosis or just a really hard time at the dentist, the experience we've built here in King of Prussia was designed with them in mind. Kids we see regularly include:
You don't need a label to deserve a kinder approach. We'll also be upfront when we're not the right fit. If your child needs general anesthesia in a hospital setting, or would be better served by an oral surgeon or another specialist, Dr. Deep will tell you clearly and help point you in the right direction.
Before the visit: Talk to your child in simple, calm terms, no big build-up needed. Schedule around their best time of day. We're open Wednesday and Friday mornings from 8:00 am and one Saturday a month, and we're looking to add another day to our week in the near future. Bring whatever helps them feel at ease, headphones, a favorite toy, sunglasses. Let us know what works and what doesn't ahead of time and we'll have things ready. If sedation is planned, we'll send clear prep instructions beforehand.
After the visit: Routine cleaning? No special instructions needed. After a filling or crown, watch for lip or cheek biting since the area may still be numb. Soft foods for a few hours and you're good. After sedation, plan for a quiet afternoon at home. If your child had a frenectomy, we'll walk you through a few simple stretches before you leave so you feel confident heading home.
Cost depends on what your child actually needs. A routine checkup is on the simpler end; a visit with sedation, fillings, or crowns will be higher. Before anything starts, Dr. Deep will walk you through exactly what he recommends and what it costs, in plain language. Nothing moves forward until you feel good about the plan.
We work with fee-for-service and PPO insurance plans. Call us ahead of time with your insurance details and we'll help you figure out what your plan is likely to cover. We also offer financing through Cherry to help spread the cost out over time.
Dr. Deep Shah is a board-certified pediatric dentist, which means he completed extra years of specialized training in children's dental care beyond dental school. Before opening Sidekick Smiles, he spent years as a Chief Dental Officer, guiding and training dentists across more than 60 offices. He also serves as the Sedation Director for the pediatric dental residency at the University of Pennsylvania and CHOP, which means the techniques he uses here are the same ones he teaches to the next generation of pediatric dentists. On top of his experience, our practice also offers:
This is a low-volume practice on purpose. We are not rushing kids through in fifteen-minute slots. Families in King of Prussia, the Main Line, and surrounding areas choose Sidekick Smiles because there is actual time built into every appointment, and your child gets the same doctor, the same team, and the same familiar space every single time.
Yes, and this practice was built for exactly that. We typically start with a no-pressure, no-treatment visit so your child can get familiar with the space and the team before anything else happens. From there, we build a plan around what actually works for your child, not a one-size-fits-all approach.
Yes. For most kids, a parent in the room is the single most calming thing we can offer. Some older children actually do better when a parent steps out, and if we notice that, we will mention it. Either way, you make the call.
It depends on three things: how much work needs to be done, how your child handles dental visits, and their health history. Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is the lightest option and just takes the edge off mild nerves. Oral conscious sedation is a step up: your child stays awake but feels deeply relaxed and may not remember much of the visit. IV sedation is reserved for children who need more extensive treatment or cannot get through a visit while awake.
That is useful information, not a failure. A visit that ends with your child walking out calm, even if nothing clinical got done, is a real step forward. We take what we learned, adjust the approach, and try again from a better starting point. Progress does not always look like a perfect appointment.
Yes. Dr. Deep is an Airway Certified Provider and treats tongue ties and lip ties in-office using a CO2 laser, which is faster and gentler than older methods. We also look at the broader picture: how a child breathes, sleeps, and eats can all connect back to what is happening in their mouth. If any of that applies to your child, it is worth bringing up at your first visit.

You have probably explained your child to someone who nodded and then treated them like every other kid. That is not what happens here. If your child needs to see the place first, ask about a meet-the-team visit. They walk through, peek at the game room, sit in the chair if they want, and leave with nothing done but a high five.
We are at 700 South Henderson Road in King of Prussia. Call us at (610) 992-4910 whenever you are ready. Your kid is the hero of this story. We are just glad to be the sidekick.
