If your child cries in the parking lot, clamps their mouth shut, or panics the moment they spot a dental chair, you are not alone, and this is exactly the right place to land. Dr. Deep and the team at Sidekick Smiles built this practice in King of Prussia for kids who need more time, more patience, and a team that treats nervousness as completely normal, not something to push through.
Your child is the hero of this story. We are just the sidekick. Some kids walk in ready for anything. Others do better starting with a no-treatment hello visit and leave feeling good about it. Either way is completely fine. Behind all the fun, Dr. Deep is a board-certified pediatric dentist with specialized training in kids' care. If a past visit went sideways somewhere else, this is a good place to start fresh.
Give us a call at (610) 992-4910 and we will help you plan a first visit that fits your child.

Before your first visit, just call us and tell us about your child. What sets them off: the sounds, the bright lights, a rough experience somewhere else, sensory sensitivities, an older sibling who told them too much.
This isn't a typical waiting room. Toddlers head to the Montessori area. Older kids and teens usually gravitate straight to the game room. And you get a parent lounge where you can actually sit and breathe.
Nothing touches your child before they've seen it and heard what it does, explained in words that actually make sense to a kid. The little mirror. The tooth counter. The puff of air that tickles. We even have an intraoral camera that puts a picture of your child's own teeth up on a screen, so instead of wondering what a stranger is doing in their mouth, they get to look at it right along with us.
If they need a break, they get one, no questions asked. If the whole first visit is just a tooth count and a ride in the chair, that's a real win, and we write it down so next time we can start a little further along. We never push a child through something they're not ready for. Some kids do best coming in once with no treatment at all, just to look around, meet Dr. Deep, and leave feeling good about it.
Dr. Deep will walk you through the visit before you head out: what your child did well, anything to work on at home, and what the plan looks like for next time. No guessing, no vague reassurances. Just a clear picture of where things stand.

If any of these sound familiar, you are in the right place:
For many kids, a slower pace and a dentist who explains things before doing them makes all the difference. If your child's anxiety runs deeper, we will talk through comfort options together. That might mean nitrous oxide, oral conscious sedation, or in-office IV sedation administered by our on-site anesthesia team, which includes a pediatric-trained anesthesiologist. We never jump straight to sedation, and plenty of anxious kids never need it at all.
Before the visit: keep it short and positive. Tell your child they are going to meet someone who counts teeth and shows kids cool stuff on a little screen. Book when they are rested, bring a comfort item if they have one, and skip the dental stories. If they are already anxious, call us first and we will set up a no-treatment hello visit.
After a routine visit: be specific with your praise. Instead of a general good job, point out exactly what they did well. Kids repeat the behaviors that get noticed.
After treatment: we will walk you through everything before you leave, what to eat, what to expect with numbness, and what to watch for. If your child had sedation, you will get clear guidance on rest and recovery, plus a direct way to reach us if anything feels off.

Dr. Deep Shah is a board-certified pediatric dentist who completed extra years of specialized training focused entirely on kids. Before opening Sidekick Smiles, he served as a Chief Dental Officer mentoring dentists across more than 60 offices. He currently serves as the Sedation Director for the pediatric dental residency program at the University of Pennsylvania and CHOP, which means the techniques he uses here are the same ones he teaches to the next generation of pediatric dentists.
Here's what else makes this place different:
Families come to us from King of Prussia, Upper Merion, and all across the Main Line and Philly suburbs, many of them because a friend told them their kid actually liked it there.
We never push. If your child is not ready, we find something smaller to do, sitting in the chair, holding the mirror, or watching their teeth on the camera screen. Every small step counts, and we build on it at the next visit.
Yes. If your presence helps your child feel safe, please stay. We may gently suggest stepping back at some point since some kids open up more on their own, but the choice is always yours.
As early as possible. The general recommendation is around age one or when the first tooth appears. Early visits are short and low-pressure, which gives anxiety less to latch onto. If your child is older and already nervous, a no-treatment hello visit is a great place to start.
Sidekick Smiles offers three options: nitrous oxide (an inhaled gas that helps kids relax while staying awake), oral conscious sedation (a liquid or pill taken before the visit that makes kids calm and drowsy), and IV sedation (a deeper option administered by our on-site anesthesia team, which includes a pediatric-trained anesthesiologist, for kids who need more significant work done). Dr. Deep has extensive training in all three and will recommend the right fit based on your child's anxiety level, treatment needs, and health history.
Yes. Tell us what tends to set your child off, whether that is sounds, bright lights, unexpected touch, or strong smells, and we will plan around it.
It happens, and it is not a failure. After a tough visit, Dr. Deep will talk through what happened, what triggered it, and what to do differently next time. Building trust with an anxious child takes time, and we are committed to seeing it through.
Making the call is often the hardest part, especially if you've been putting this off just as much as your child has. But it doesn't have to be a big first step. A quick hello, a look around, a chance to meet Dr. Deep. That's a perfectly good place to begin.
Just tell us what your child is nervous about, and we'll build the visit around that. If it helps to see what you're walking into first, take a look at what a visit here actually looks like. When you're ready, call Sidekick Smiles at (610) 992-4910. We'll figure out the rest together.
